Juli-Brief 2005

Anlage: 1 Kopie

Dear Procurator General,

The case of a young citizen of your country, Nilufar Chaidarowa, has been brought to my attention, and I should like to ask for your intervention. It is my belief that this young woman has been unfairly arrested, tried and imprisoned, possibly on account of the religious beliefs of her husband and brothers.

Last October Nilufar Chaidarowa was condemned to six years' imprisonment for, among other accusations, being a member of a forbidden organisation. Since that time her sentence has been reduced to four years. She is currently in the women's prison number 64/7 in Tashkent. At the time of her arrest, many other fervent Moslem believers were also arrested and imprisoned after unfair trials. Members of her family believe that she has only been imprisoned because her husband and two brothers are serving sentences for being "members of forbidden religious organisations" and for participation in "activities contrary to the interests of the State".

Four years ago this young woman became ill with cancer and she is also suffering from high blood pressure. The international human rights organisation, Amnesty International, fears that she is not receiving adequate medical attention.

I should like to ask you to organise an investigation into all claims of torture and maltreatment in this case, and also to ensure that she will receive correct medical treatment.

Yours sincerely,
